I hadn’t spent a night on an adjustable bed before, but there’s a first time for everything, and I thought I’d document my experiences for the benefit of anybody who looking at mobility beds. More information is always useful, and I think that getting somebody’s personal experience of a product is a great way to learn about it.

I started off by raising the back of the bed up so I was in a comfortable sitting position, and I read my book. There wasn’t a television in the room, so I didn’t try out watching one, but I can’t see why there would be any problems doing so. It felt a bit weird at first, but it was much more comfortable than propping up a pillow and leaning against that.

Once I decided to get to sleep, it was a simple matter to lower the back down again. However, I then spent longer than I should have experimenting with different positions to lie down in. I’m sure that once you know your favourite, actually getting to sleep would happen sooner, but I couldn’t help experimenting with all the different choices. Eventually, I decided I did have to sleep and found a comfortable position, then turned off the light.

I slept soundly all night and when I awoke I was still perfectly comfortable. I didn’t have any of the usual twinges or aches that I often do first thing in the morning, which was wonderful. Then, I used the bed to lift me into a sitting position and easily got out of the bed.

Overall, it was an excellent night’s sleep.

If you’ve been putting up with an aching back or joints, find that you just can’t get comfortable at night or have difficulty getting out of bed in the morning, then looking into adjustable beds could well be a good … Continue reading →

If you’ve been putting up with an aching back or joints, find that you just can’t get comfortable at night or have difficulty getting out of bed in the morning, then looking into adjustable beds could well be a good idea. You’ll find that many of those problems can be helped by making the change to an adjustable bed, as they can support you far better during the night, giving you a much more restful night’s sleep that won’t have you aching in the morning. They can even help you to your feet in the morning.

However, when looking for beds you might find that the price is a bit higher than you had budgeted for, but this shouldn’t be a problem. There are schemes available that will allow you to do a part exchange using your current furniture, and some suppliers will even go up to £300 of credit against your purchase, depending on the quality of your current bed. Similar schemes are also available for Rise and Recline chairs, so you can get your entire home fitted to provide much greater mobility than it currently does.

These part exchange programs are an excellent way to redesign your home’s furnishings to provide a much more comfortable lifestyle for you, and it also means you avoid all of the problems of removing your old furniture or trying to find space for the new. Instead, you simply reduce the value of your current chairs and beds from the total cost of your adjustable beds and rise and recline chairs.

My parents, in particular, are very proud of the way their living room furniture matches the rest of the room, and I know that my grandfather would hate for his bed to no longer match the rest of his room’s décor. I believed that finding something to match what they already had would be incredibly difficult.

As it turned out, I was entirely wrong. The level of customisation and tailoring that some companies offer on their recliner chairs and electric beds is simply incredible. You’re not just limited to their pre-made selection, but can specify the patterns and colours for the material they use, the style of the arms (for chairs), back and feet, the look of the padding and much, much more. I was amazed at how different the various options ended up looking once I’d applied my own choices to them.

Armed with this new knowledge, I got some photos of my relatives’ current chairs and beds and went about matching them as closely as possible. When I had some mock-ups of what their new furniture would look like, I took them to them and showed them. They’d had the same preconceptions that I did, and were amazed at how these images shattered those completely. They’re now seriously considering getting themselves some adjustable beds and chairs which will undoubtedly make their lives easier.

Are you fed up with your current chair? Tired of bending to the will of whoever put it together? It’s your chair and you should be able to do what you like with it, bend its back to any structure that you find comfortable, rather than forcing you to sit in a position that leaves you sore and uncomfortable?

The answer to all these questions is, of course, that you don’t have to. You aren’t bound to the whims of your chair or its designer; you can get rise and recliner chairs that will allow you to manipulate its position into one that you find comfortable. You will dictate how you sit and your recliner chair will be the one that changes to support you.

The results of this should be obvious straight away. You can find a position that supports your spine, legs and joints, allowing you to sit in a comfortable position that doesn’t give you unnecessary joint aches or pains.

What’s even better is how the chair can help you get up. It’s already much easier to stand if your joints aren’t aching, but the added benefit of a rise and recliner chair is that in can smoothly and effortlessly lift you to your feet, allowing you to take a standing position once again without the potential discomfort and awkwardness of pulling yourself up.

Swap your stubborn, old, demanding chair for one that supports you today; get a rise and recliner chair.

Memorials – Decide On Your Own or Leave It To Your Family?

When you inevitably pass away, your family and friends are going to want something to remember you by, something that they can use as a focus for mourning and that represents your spiritual presence now that you are no longer with them. Memorials and headstones are a perfect way to do that and are popular throughout the world, in one form or another.

But what should you do for a memorial? Should you do anything and let your family decide? It’s for them more than you, after all, or should you choose something that you feel represents you, so that it is a real representation of you as a person rather than other people’s opinions of you?

By allowing your family to make most of the decisions, either whilst you are alive or after your departure, they can choose something that is appropriate to their means, to their needs and that it is easy for them to mourn at. Whether this is a grand statue, a small urn or a headstone, it is sure to be right for them, and you may have left them a little happier knowing that they don’t need to worry about perfectly meeting your demands.

On the other hand, they may worry that they are not getting you the correct memorial and something that truly represents you. This can be a huge worry, especially during this particularly emotional time, so perhaps they would prefer that you had made a decision?

The best answer is probably to discuss with your loved ones what you would like as a memorial, just as discussing what should be done with your body can ease the stress on them when your time comes. With it out in the open and decided, worrying isn’t necessary for any of the parties.

There are lots of benefits to having adjustable beds or rise and recliner chairs; increased comfort, ease of getting up and greater independence are but a few. However, along with all of these come some remarkable benefits which you may not have even considered. We’re speaking, of course, about the potential health benefits of furniture that supports your body.

We’ll use adjustable beds in this example, although the arguments apply just as well to recliner chairs. When you get in to bed at night on a non-adjustable bed, how you lie is largely dictated by the shape of the bed. Areas of your spine will be supported whilst others aren’t, but they may not be the areas which need it.

With an adjustable bed, you can adjust the frame until every part of your back is taken care of. This means that you won’t be tossing and turning during the night trying to get comfortable and that your spine will be in top shape the next day, without any of the soreness or tension that you may otherwise feel.

These benefits also apply to adjustable chairs, allowing you to redistribute your weight for maximum comfort and meaning that you won’t get up after watching a film with a whole new batch of aches and pains.

If this all sounds appealing to you, then looking into getting an adjustable bed or a rise and recliner chair could be a great step in helping you feel better each morning.

White Finger starts off as a fairly innocuous condition that many people may simply choose to ignore, believing it will go away with time. However, the cause of white finger is often long periods of exposure to intense vibrations, such as those generated by a pneumatic drill or a chainsaw, so if a person ignores the problem but does not stop using these industrial tools then the condition will get worse and worse. This could end up resulting in them making a white finger claim.

The reason they might need to seek out accident compensation as a result of their white finger is that the condition can develop into much more serious conditions. What begins as a tingling in the fingers can evolve into them turning completely pale, the reason the condition is known as white finger, accompanied by intense pain as the paleness begins to fade. This is all caused by the blood vessels to the fingers constricting too much and completely cutting off the blood supply. Without their supply of oxygen, the cells in the finger become damaged and die, which results in the sensation of pain as the blood flows back.

The cells dying means that there is an excellent opportunity for necrosis or gangrene to set into the flesh. These almost always have serious consequences as the infected flesh must be removed before it spreads to other regions or poisons the blood. In extreme cases this can involve amputation of the fingers, hand, or even parts of the arm.

White Finger’s medical name is Raynaud’s phenomenon, but it gets the name White Finger due to the effect it has on a person’s fingers. The blood vessels constrict so that blood can no longer reach the muscles and nerves in the fingers. When the blood returns to the affected area it creates a pins and needles sensation, just as if you were sat in an odd position and restricted the blood flow to your foot, then stood up.

The title of this post mentioned winter and that’s because attacks of white finger are normally brought on by one of two things: cold or stress. In cold weather, your blood vessels constrict anyway so as to preserve body heat. With white finger they close far too much. Once the attack has passed and blood flows back to your fingers you will likely feel a tingling sensation, just as you would with pins and needles.

White finger is a condition that most people get as an industrial disease. Too much time spent using vibrating tools damages the fingers so that white finger develops. It can heal with time as long as the exposure to vibrations is cut off, but if allowed to develop it can lead to gangrene and necrosis.

There are measures put in place by the Health and Safety Executive that employers should follow, but if they don’t and you do develop white finger you should look into white finger claims. As with all accident claims your best bet is to go straight to an accident solicitor.

If you've been involved in an accident that wasn't your fault then you'll know how frustrating it is to know that all of the pain and suffering you're going through is due to the actions of somebody else. It can feel as if there's no course of action you can take to seek justice and whatever you do, that person will never be held accountable for what they did. Continue reading →

If you’ve been involved in an accident that wasn’t your fault then you’ll know how frustrating it is to know that all of the pain and suffering you’re going through is due to the actions of somebody else. It can feel as if there’s no course of action you can take to seek justice and whatever you do, that person will never be held accountable for what they did.

That, however, is not correct. By pursuing an accident claim you can seek accident compensation for the injuries that you have suffered. The amount of compensation that you receive will be based on the severity of your injuries and how much compensation was given out to claimants in similar situations. The person responsible for the accident, or any insurance company they might be with, will be forced to pay you this remuneration.

It’s not just the immediate suffering that is taken into account though. Any extra costs that you’ve incurred as a result of your injury will also be considered when deciding on the final amount you’ll receive. Money you’ve paid to repair damages to any of your property will be included, as will the costs of any adjustments you’ve had to make to your house or vehicle to allow you to continue living there comfortably, such as stair lifts or wheelchair access.

Any wages or pay you would have earnt whilst incapacitated can also be included in a compensation claim, as it is money you would have received had the defendant not caused you to have an accident.
